An ideal mature skin concealer should both cover and conceal, while also using anti-aging ingredients to correct and protect aging skin. Today there are concealers that provide both anti-aging benefits and full-coverage, helping you to not just look younger on the surface, but actually have healthier, firmer, more youthful skin. Just because these are common struggles however, doesn’t mean they have to be. Yet for women over 40, “generic” mass-market concealers often overpromise and underdeliver because they’re not formulated for mature skin. So naturally as we age, the more concealer we typically use. This causes hyperpigmentation with “age spots” not only becoming more frequent, but also becoming darker and needing a thicker concealer for full coverage. Plus, as we age, we commonly overproduce melanin, the natural pigment that gives skin its color. Our skin also becomes dryer and “textured” so concealers look dry much quicker and can become more cakey.

Less collagen means our skin becomes thinner and less firm which causes more wrinkles and fine lines. After the age of 25 our bodies start producing roughly 1% less collagen per year¹. And to no fault of our own, it’s just natural biology.

In our 20s and 30s, we didn’t even need much to begin with, and what we did put on would glide over firm, smooth and hydrated skin. If over the years you’ve become a bit more skeptical about finding a concealer that will actually work on mature skin, you’re not alone.
